Jade burial suit of King Zhao Mo

Dating back 2000 years ago, this splendid mausoleum of Nanyue King is considered as one of the best museum in China. It houses the contents of the royal tombs of Zhao Mo. The tomb, located 20 meters underground, was discovered when bulldozers clear ground to build a hotel in 1983. They also found 15 other skeletons, believed to be his servants and his wives, all magnificently prepared for the afterlife.

Zhao Mo is the second king of Nanyue, from 137 to 122 BC. He was sent south in 214 BC to quell unrest and established a sovereign state with Guangzhou as its capital. Covering 14,000 square and made up of 750 huge stones, clearly this tomb shows off the glorious of southern emperor. Inside tomb, there are over 1000 pieces of cultural relics such as weapons, gold and silver plate, the royal seal, and jade amulets. All of which feature the Yue Culture of south China and even tourists can find a lot of subjects from the other foreign cultures. Interestingly this tomb is the only one of the early Western Han Dynasty that has color murals. Among the special things found in the Nanyue King Tomb, silk-jade garment is the most fascinating. Today the museum has become one of the most popular attractions in Guangzhou where tourists and locals appreciate the accomplishment of Chinese emperor and get a glimpse at the history of timeless China.
