Located on the top of SihanoukVille Mountain about 6km away from downtown, Wat Leu, or "Upper Wat" is one of 5 main Wats in the beautiful port city of SihanoukVille. Surrounded by the landscaped forest, Wat Leu offers a wonderful view to the town and islands. Like the other wats the Wat Leu is a Buddhist temple and one of the most popular attractions in Sihanoukville though the city is well known for its beautiful beaches and island along the coast.
Wat Leu is not just a religious and historic wat, it also offers significance from the architectural point of view. The temple is surrounded by a high stone wall carved meticulously with three headed elephant and the head of each elephant is also carved out of three statues of Buddha. The temple is covered by golden color with spectacular roofs and traditionally design is similar to other pagodas. The main staircase that leads to the entrance, is a large statue of lord Buddha, which is made of black colored stones.
